WEEK SIX DEVLOG
I’m gonna go a bit backwards this week because I am very excited to share my idea for my card game suggestion. I wanna call it “GOTTA G.O.!(Get Out)” A card shedding game about trying to get errands and stuff done before a trip. In chapter 5 of Macklin and Sharp, they say “conceptualization of a game begins with a number of different techniques to generate and shape ideas…”. I am taking my early concept of Gotta G.O.! and throwing ideas around. Making sure to stay on theme but to make the game fun and not a headache to learn like The Crew (not the first time i am going to mention this game btw!). I hope if we do pick Gotta G.O! as our card game to hash out more of the mechanics and go more into my concept.
In Chapter 5 of Macklin and sharp as well, they go into the detail of “design values” the process of answering more questions in the design process. When I picture Gotta G.O! I am thinking of the card design, will there be cute pictures of travel icons, maybe implementing mechanics of the open road like stop signs to disrupt the play through some how, or road closures figuratively speaking on the card game that makes a player draw more cards and keeps them from leaving their home for their vacation. Definitely through our prototyping if this game goes forward is gonna be interesting.
I want to finish up with talking about Chapter 8 in Macklin and Sharp on the paragraph of play testing, the text talks about being aware of shifting demands and different aspects of the design process. Even though in my head this Gotta G.O.! Idea is pretty solid so far in my head I will welcome any suggestions and feedback on improving the idea. It is important that my teammates and I can make this game, or any other game we decide on, work! We don’t want players to be stumped on game rules and directions for 15+ minutes like we were with The Crew. I would love for players to hear the rules and have somewhat an understanding of whats going on, and building upon that knowledge as they play, just like I did when i played Exploding Kittens. In my view, learning as i went and building on my pre established knowledge of the game made it much more fun for me to play, especially for me who has never played the game till Thursday!
